It got quite cold for us last night (I think it was around -20C at midnight?), so I decided on a whim to make saffron ice cream by sticking a bowl outside. It worked great! Just brought it in every half hour to beat it. I would probably choose a different base recipe next time, as the one I used kind of coats your mouth in a weird way, but it tastes fine.

Z and I finished watching the Netflix adaptation of the Lockwood & Co novels. For the most part, I quite liked it! The pacing was a bit rushed at parts, and I wasn't a fan of them pushing the romance harder since I wasn't super interested in it, but the ghost effects are nice, and I enjoyed all the main characters. Definitely liked seeing more of things like George running off to the library and getting himself in trouble, since we're not stuck in Lucy's head all the time. If it survives the Netflix cancellation rounds, I'll happily watch more of it. It made me want to re-read the books, although it also reminded me that I have a Stroud book sitting around unread, so I should probably finish that first!

Mostly been reading in Japanese this week, though - and I learned that anyone living in the US or Canada (perhaps elsewhere as well, they don't ask for much info and idk if they actually check your IP) can get a free Japan Foundation digital library card. While they don't have a huge selection, they do have a nice variety of literature and nonfiction in both Japanese and English. Once I got my card, I looked around and spotted a collection edited by one of my Japanese professors :D

I started listening to a new podcast this week about the Salem witch trials. It's an interesting subject that I don't know a lot about, but I ended up dropping it because a) the host is too chatty for my tastes b) the host also repeated some pieces of information multiple times per half-hour episode, which gets annoying c) she seems to really want you to know she may be white but she's definitely not a racist by repeatedly informing you that the Puritans were sooooo racist you guys after, you know, have described their racist views or racist things they did, which made the point clear already. Come on, trust the listener a little. The bit that made me drop it was when she told us that one person involved in the trials lived through her village burning down in a war with the people whose land they were colonizing, witnessed multiple family members die in that fire, and was taken captive, then brushed that whole experience off as being NBD, it was only a few months of captivity and she didn't even actually suffer at all during it, but did I tell you this lady was racist yet? I added a couple of other history podcasts to my player at the same time as that one, so hopefully I will like one of their hosts better.

Didn't have time to go skating this week, but I went last week and my boots were feeling even better. I'll probably do a tiny bit more tweaking, but I need to email my coach and see if our schedules will line up for lessons. Did finally get a physical from my new PCP, though, and while I was there got a referral about something that I'm not sure is a Medical Problem or just a Thing About Me. Guess we'll see.
