Today's prompt [community profile] snowflake_challenge was 'a rec countdown':
"You pick 5 categories of Recs
You pick which category gets 5 recs.
Which one gets four, three… and so on."

I chose to do:
5 - skating performances from this quad
4 - rhythmic gymnastics routines from this quad
3 - vintage skating performances
2 - rhythmic group performances
1 - ballet clip to mix things up a little

5 skating performances from this quad
Rino Matsuike - Her performance at Skate Canada made a bunch of us fall in love with her deep edges, fairy-like expressions, and soft knees. That one is geoblocked, but here's a video of her program from Nationals:

Deanna and Max - I loved their program from the first viewing when I realized they were skating to 'Interview with the Vampire', but seeing them at Worlds when they won their first World title? I wanted to jump out of my chair and scream for the last thirty seconds, and I think the rest of the audience did as well!

Adam Siao Him Fa - Speaking of Worlds! Adam went into the free skate in a shockingly low 19th place and then gave it everything to climb up to a bronze medal. This video is a fancam b/c geoblocking again (a VPN is a must if you're a skating fan, lol), but it also shows the great energy that was in the rink. I get chills just rewatching it.

Yuka and Juho - she's the siren, he's the sailor whose heart gets eat. Loved the creative theme, and they looked stunning together.

Kazuki Tomono - he's got bills! he's gotta pay! Hands down the best gala of the last quad. He's such an entertainer.

4 rhythmic gymnastics routines from this quad
Ft. 4 apparatuses!

Clubs: I always looked forward to Elzhana Taniyeva's cool as heck club routine this season:

Hoop: Darja Varfolomeev's hoop routine was fun, and I always love that moment when it just rolls around her on the carpet. Looking forward to seeing how she develops even more with the new code!

Ball: Boryana Kaleyn just shone at the Olympics, and who can get enough of her fouette turns?

Ribbon: Stiliana Nikolova's not my favorite artist, but her apparatus handling is great, and her very Paris-pandering ribbon routine was unforgettable even if unfortunately it didn't end up being a good omen for her:

3 vintage skating programs
John Curry skating an exhibition on the history of skating - and giving a masterclass in how to make even the most basic strokes look stunning:

Almássy Zsuzsa at Worlds 1970, very charming and has some interesting entrances to her elements:

Kati & Rene, 1999 - I like it when skaters commit to doing something offbeat with tons of energy:

2 rhythmic group performances
2024, Germany 3 ribbons + 2 balls - fun music and some really nice matches between music and movements. (There is a mistake at the very end of this performance, but it was the best I found in terms of camerawork.)

2018, Bulgaria 5 hoops - very coordinated with lots of wow moments, and based on a very sad Bulgarian folktale.

1 ballet clip
This clip of Alice in Wonderland from the Royal Ballet and Opera made me track down the full ballet because it was so fun and engaging. Having the Mad Hatter mix tap with ballet was apparently very difficult for the dancer, but it really adds to the off-kilter oddball experience you expect from Alice in Wonderland, and I just love this version of Alice, who is a good mix of curious, romantic, and cheeky. (The full ballet is pretty good, too.)

Oh that Mad Hatter choreography was brilliant!

Also thank you for the great skating videos! I recognised Adam‘s name (also Deanna and Max) because I recently started sporadically watching skating again. And wow Adam was a miracle! Even through the fanvideo you could see how driven he was. Excellent overall. That Lunchmoney Lewis gala vid was so funny, I love skaters who do programs like this that are pure fun! And the siren story was so well done - I adore choreographies which can really tell a story (just like Kati and Rene who I even probably watched on TV way back then).

Love the rhythmic gymnastics vids! Ribbon is my fav apparatus to watch, with ball a close second. I'm just fascinated by the movements.
