Today I:
🏵Finally tried out mycoffee spice grinder that Z gave me for Christmas. I put in a tiny amount of cardamom and it ground it down just fine. Apparently there is also a vegetable-chopping cup, which I will try out the next time I need to cut up a small amount of vegetables.
🏵Applied for a job that sounds cool and interesting! Am worried that it technically does not say remote-eligible on it, but the company has been making a lot of noise about how they're totally going to let most everyone do remote work post-pandemic, so... guess I'll cross that bridge if I get an interview.
🏵Got my first Covid vaccine shot!!! Freedom is so close... they didn't even ask for the extra documents I brought to prove my residency, just zipped Z and I along. So far, my only side effect is a sore arm. It was lingering in my wrist for a bit earlier, but that went away.
R also got back to me this week with the headshots I commissioned from him. They look like real photos! I slapped them up on my LinkedIn and whatnot and now I feel so professional 😊 Can't wait to see him at the rink again. Soon.
Read: Took a break from reading Selling Women because I remembered suddenly that Jonathon Stroud's newest book, The Outlaws Scarlett and Browne, was out! Technically, not out in the US yet, but you know, if you happen to have a Kobo Japan account, it's not region-locked on there and you don't even need to use a VPN (in fact, Kobo is one of those sites that freaks out and refuses to connect to mine). Soooo I bought it :D
I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from the description; it's a very Stroud setting of supernatural alt-history UK, in this case post-apocalyptic, but this time with a Western-genre flair to it. The main characters had a fun dynamic - she's a practical bank-robbing outlaw with a temper and a kind spot, he's a dreamer who's only mostly as naive as he seems. I could've sped right through the book if I hadn't parceled chapters out as a reward to myself. Would've liked more backstory on Scarlett, but I suspect that's being saved for the next book. Looking forward to it!
Currently Reading: Made more progress on Selling Women. While I picked up the Stroud book, I also got a cute manga called Ahiru no Ballet|Duck Ballet - no relation to Princess Tutu - which is about a lesbian couple who start taking adult ballet classes. One did ballet for a decade but quit ages ago due to realizing she wasn't good and feeling intimidated by the pressure; the other is a total newbie who hasn't even seen a full ballet performance. The art is rough but serviceable, and the main couple is cute as they pursue their goal of not becoming the most beautiful dancers, but of staying active and having fun with dance. I'm about halfway through and I really like it - it's quite relatable! - though I do find the pages of katakana'd French somewhat intimidating. My small knowledge of ballet terms only gets me so far when it gets into words that haven't been explained yet. (It doesn't help that the French->Japanese sound transition is not always the same as the French->English->Japanese sound transition.)

Date: 2021-04-08 03:01 pm (UTC)It just says 'coffee grinder' on the box and in the manual, but they advertise it as doing both online, and I've seen reference to using coffee grinders for spices. It might depend on the type of grinder? /knows nothing about coffee
